Japanese prosecutors are seeking to overturn the conviction of a man falsely accused and sentenced to 12 years for rape. Three and half years into his sentence, the man’s attorney filed for a new trial. At the new trial, the accuser admitted to making a false statement.
The Osaka District Court will return with a verdict on October 16. The man maintained his innocence throughout. His attorney criticized the courts for failing to expose the accuser’s lie. The original conviction was upheld by both the Osaka High Court and the Supreme Court.
