Julie Dombo, 60, of Derby, Kansas, was shot twice in the chest during the robbery of an AT&T store in August. The robber entered the store on the pretense of a new phone plan. He then pulled a gun out.
The robbery suspect, James Phillips, ordered everyone into a back room. Dombo, a customer, tried to leave instead. Phillips shot her twice in the chest. Phillips fled the scene, shooting at police as he drove away. He was captured after crashing his car.
After being Mirandized, Philips admitted to the robbery and the shooting. He said he shot her because she refused to do what he told her.
Phillips is a suspect in five other cell phone store robberies.
